🙏 Mantras
Bengali Buddhist monks — the Bhantes — rarely explain the meaning of the Pali words we chant. This is a humble attempt to translate those Pali sentences into plain English, so they become a bridge between our sincere intent and the otherwise incomprehensible language.
In daily practice, the Vandana (Homage) is immediately followed by the Tisarana (Three Refuges) and then the Panca Sila (Five Precepts). The complete sequence is :
Vandana
recited 3x (Homage to the Buddha)
Tisarana
Each line repeated 3x (Taking refuge in the Triple Gem)
Panca Sila
Each line recited once (Undertaking the Five Precepts)
